Oscar de la Renta, you will be missed

Having battled with cancer for approximately 8 years, may Mr Oscar de la Renta's beautiful soul rest in peace. I am fortunate enough to have lived at the same time as such a legend. Mr de la Renta whose career began as early as the 1950s, was a true artist indeed. He went from studying art to making master pieces in the fashion industry. Yet he was never one to blow his own trumpet, in fact he once said that if one was to ask what Oscar de la Renta was, one could simple reply ‘It’s a pretty dress.' His work was not only seen on Hollywood stars but also on a few first ladies. When designing his clothes, Oscar de la Renta had women's interests at heart, he sought to make clothes that were most flattering to women's bodies. He had an eye for colour, which was a reflection of his energy. This can be seen in his last collection, the 2015 Spring Collection.

What I wear

So my baby(my camera) unexpectedly came back today. Overwhelmed with excitement I am onto my second post with one of my favourite styles, Afrocentric with a Hippie twist to it. This outfit is a reflection of free-spirited nature and love for nature. I always feel like I am one with nature when I wear earthy colours like these. You can recreate this look with a Blazer, dress, skirt or pants with tribal prints paired with a matching pieces or denim pieces or other pieces with one solid colour visa-versa and a pair of sandals, wedges of funky heels.  I bought most of the pieces from local shops selling Hippie clothes and accessories. Who better to turn to for inspiration than the gorgeous songstresses Jhene Aiko and the Knowles sisters, Beyonce and Solange.

Normcore, an anstisyle statement

I deemed it fitting to start my long overdue blog with a relatively new style, normcore. For a while I had wondered if there was a single term used to describe my everyday, off to lectures look. The same look rocked by hipsters on the daily, disclaimer: I am not one. Normcore, as defined by Vogue is a bland antistyle. The term, normcore is a combination of normal and hardcore. And there's nothing I love more than to combine or casualize casualize looks. I wear what I want. The key is to be cool while not being cool, looking effortlessly fashionable as if you randomly grabbed items from your wardrobe and decided that they made a decent looking outfit or whatever, you couldn't be bothered, it's normcore!  It's often associated with turtle-necks, denim pants, formal pants, stretchy dresses, vests, sports jackets, chucks, caps and beanies, which are worn by both females and males, hence its a unisex style. Here are some of my normcore looks.
